The battle between the San Jose SaberCats and Jacksonville Sharks for the title of Arena Bowl XXVII Champion will take place this Saturday. Both teams have taken very different roads to make it to the Arena Bowl.
The Sharks are still a relatively new team in arena football with their inaugural season being in 2010. The Sharks won their first Arena Bowl in their second season in 2011 and proved that they are true competitors in the Arena Football League.
The Sharks started the 2015 season out slow, losing their first five out of six games. Although the beginning of the season did not start off exactly how they would have liked, they recovered nicely going on a five game winning streak. The Sharks closed the season out with a playoff win against the Orlando Predators, and walked away with the victory against the Philadelphia Soul to take the title of “Conference Champions.”
The San Jose SaberCats began their inaugural season in 1995 and captured their first Arena Bowl title in 2002 with a total of three titles under their belt. The 2015 season for the SaberCats has been one of the best seasons in franchise history, ending the regular season with a 17-1 record. The SaberCats undefeated streak ended when they lost to the LA Kiss 48-42 on Saturday, June 13. After the loss, the team went on another winning streak, which they are still on leading into the Arena Bowl.
The SaberCats defeated the no. 4 seated Portland Thunder in the playoffs and then went on to defeat the defending Arena Bowl champions, the Arizona Rattlers, 70-67 at the Stockton Arena in the Conference Championship match.
